As an industry analyst, Mr. Utheza authored reports on IPTV distributed and published by The Diffusion Group (Austin, TX). Those reports received press coverage from BusinessWeek, CED Magazine, BroadbandDaily and more. M. Until November 2003, Mr. Utheza was working at Liberate Technologies ( www.liberate.com ). He was responsible for the development of the Liberate product and technology portfolio via business agreements and corporate M&A. He was instrumental in the divestiture of Liberate's Operational Support Systems (OSS) division. He represented Liberate at the Board of companies in which Liberate had a minority equity stake, such as TwoWayTV.
In a previous position at Liberate, Mr. Utheza was vice president of solutions and product marketing. He was responsible for the development of the company's solution-focused product strategy, including the return on investment for customers and pricing model. Utheza drove Liberate's product-related partnerships, content profiles, features requirements, and alignment of the product roadmap with customer and partner goals. He also oversaw Liberate strategies and policies related to content and technology standards efforts.
Previously, Mr. Utheza was the vice president of sales operations worldwide for Liberate, managing to target a budget of $10 million annually.
Still at Liberate, but during the time when Liberate was the resulting merger of NCI and Navio Communications, Utheza served as both vice president of sales and director of business development for Digital Pay TV Europe. In this role he guided and completed agreements with such customers as Cable & Wireless Communications (now NTL), and Telewest, as well as numerous technology licensing agreements with network operators and consumer electronics companies.
A member of the founding team at OpenTV ( www.opentv.com ), Utheza was its company's first contract and licensing manager, establishing its worldwide licensing policies and procedures. He played a lead role in OpenTV deployment agreements with BSkyB (News Corp.), British Interactive Broadcasting, Television Par Satellite in France, and Telia in Sweden, as well as the hardware manufacturers porting the OpenTV software. He also designed and implemented the company's intellectual property and patent filing strategies.
Utheza's role at OpenTV grew from his positions at parent companies Thomson-RCA (http://www.thomson.net/gb/00/index.htm) and Thomson/CSF Ventures where he focused on emerging technologies for interactive TV and venture capital issues, respectively.
Mr. Utheza received his MBA with honors from Graduate Management School of HEC (Hautes Etudes Commerciales) in Paris, France (www.hec.fr ), and holds a Bachelor of Science magna cum laude .
He has been a keynote speaker at multiple events and industries conventions.
